West Urban Light Hike to Sandy Springs!

Do you love nature, or do you love the city? Welcome to both! Whether you prefer strolling through the woods or walking along a neighborhood sidewalk, there’s something for everyone to enjoy on this light hike in Sandy Springs! We’ll begin our hike with a meet-n-greet in the parking lot at the Abernathy Arts Center. From there we’ll be heading to take a tour of the new City Springs Fire Station and Performing Arts Center. We’ll enjoy strolling through the woods at Abernathy Greenway and stopping for lunch at City BBQ. After lunch it’s a nice walk through the playground at Abernathy Park and back to our cars at the Abernathy Arts Center. WEATHER PERMITTING (All day rain off) DATE: January 13th 2024 TIME: 10am – 1pm MEET AT: Abernathy Arts Center – 254 Johnson Ferry Rd. Sandy Springs, GA 30328 LUNCH: City BBQ while on our walk. HIKE DIFFICULTY: D2, (Total 2.5-mile hike) For your sake and the sake of the group, please do not assume beyond your ability. Hiking Rating Scale: D1 Easy (beginner hikers) mostly flat D2 Easy to moderate (regular hikers) some hills D3 Moderate (a cardio workout) mountainous D4 Moderate to strenuous (challenging workout) Steep grades/moderate distance. D5 Strenuous (serious physical challenge) Very steep and far DEVOTIONAL: We will do a short devotional somewhere along the trail or at lunch. WHAT TO BRING: Small Day Pack to carry your gear- rain jacket, camera, water, etc. No children or animals please. KEEP IN MIND: There are always dangerous and unforeseen elements when out in nature: Cliffs, water hazards, weather, animals, insects, reptiles, falling limbs or rocks, Poison Ivy, Oak, Sumac, etc. Trails may be un-maintained, slippery, rocky, icy and have steep embankments. Shoes and clothing may get muddy or wet. The woods are your bathroom. WAIVER: By attending, each person assumes all responsibility and liability for themselves and their actions and hereby releases Echo Ministries, its employees, directors, officers, agents, and volunteers from any and all liability resulting from any loss, injury, illness, damages, or death, while attending, participating or volunteering in this event.
