God bless and stay dry!** OPEN EVENT: Please feel free to invite your married friends or bring your children! Hello all you city folk! Here is your opportunity to experience something absolutely amazing in your neck of the woods! We will be hiking the short 1 mile up to the top of Stone Mt to experience one of God's amazing wonders... watching a beautiful sunset and a wondrous full moonrise! Once atop the summit, we’ll turn our attention west to watch the dazzling orange-red spectacle of our sun setting. Then just 33 minutes later, we'll turn our attention east and watch the amazing beauty of a full moon rising up from the horizon. Join us for a night of awe-inspiring scenery, good exercise, fun and great fellowship as we get out and experience God’s incredible creation. DATE: September 10, 2022 TIME: Dinner @ 5:30pm but hike isn’t until 6:45pm DINNER ADDRESS: 5:30pm @ Panda Express - 6006 Memorial Dr, Stone Mountain, GA 30083 PARK FEE: It does now cost $20/vehicle to enter the park. So, for those who have passes, we're riding with you! OR... It's free to walk-in, for those who have their secret parking spot outside the park and don't mind the extra 1/2-mile hike. WEATHER PERMITTING...overcast it’s off. Feel free to call to find out if were still on. 770-316-9200. TRAILHEAD MEEPOINT: Meet outside the bathrooms at the bottom of the "Walk Up Trail" near the West Gate at 6:45pm. We'll do a short meet and greet and then it's off to the summit! SUNSET: 7:50 (but arrive 15 min earlier) MOON RISE 8:23 BACK TO THE CARS: 9:00 (Average hike time up is 30 minutes) HIKE DIFFICULTY: 2.5 mile round trip. Short D3 Hike difficulty rating scale D1 Easy (beginner hikers) flat terrain D2 Easy to moderate (regular hikers) some hills D3 Moderate (a cardio workout) very hilly D4 Moderate to strenuous (challenging workout) steep inclines, moderate distance D5 Strenuous (serious physical challenge) Steep inclines and long distance Keep in mind, the downhill hike back may be in the dark. So bring a Flashlight or headlamp. WHAT TO BRING: Flashlight/Headlamp, water and a jacket if you are cold natured. WHAT NOT TO BRING: Animals. KEEP IN MIND: that there are always dangerous and unforeseen elements when out in nature: Cliffs, water hazards, weather, animals, insects, reptiles, falling limbs or rocks, Poison Ivy, Oak, Sumac, etc. Trails may be un-maintained, slippery, icy, rocky and have steep embankments. Shoes and clothing may get muddy or wet.
