Light Hike to Bowmans Island Park

UPDATE: There is a $5.00 parking fee and the trail could be muddy so wear shoes with good tread! Our January Light Hike will be at Bowmans Island Park, part of the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area. This is for you Light Hikers on the north/west side of Buford Dam, that is, on the Forsyth County side of Buford Dam. We'll begin at the base of the dam and then hike along the river to view some of the old growth forests. This will be an easy hike with a difficulty level of D -2 with a distance of 3 miles. Join us for a day of awe-inspiring scenery, good exercise and great fellowship as we get out and explore God’s incredible creation. For your sake and the sake of the group, please do not assume beyond your ability. Hiking Rating Scale: D2 Hike Difficulty D1 Easy (beginner hikers) mostly flat D2 Easy to moderate (regular hikers) some hills D3 Moderate (a cardio workout) mountainous D4 Moderate to strenuous (challenging workout) Steep grades/agility D5 Strenuous (serious physical challenge) Very steep and far WHAT TO BRING: Small Day Pack to carry your gear- rain jacket, camera, water, snacks, etc. Optional Things to Bring: Bible, Hiking Poles, First-Aid Kit, GPS. No children or animals please. DATE: January 8th 2022 TIME: 9:30am – 11:30am MUST SEE FOR ADDRESS: 3300 Buford Dam Rd is the closest GPS address to the turn off, to Lower Pool Road (West). AKA Little Mill Road. This is on the westside of the dam, goes downhill to the parking area. Park by the restrooms, just below the dam. LUNCH AFTERWARDS: will be around noon at the Golden Corral, 2025 Market Place Blvd, Cumming, GA 30041 KEEP IN MIND: There are always dangerous and unforeseen elements when out in nature: Cliffs, water hazards, weather, animals, insects, reptiles, falling limbs or rocks, Poison Ivy, Oak, Sumac, etc. Trails may be un-maintained, slippery, rocky, icy and have steep embankments. Shoes and clothing may get muddy or wet. The woods are your bathroom.
