Memorial Weekend Light Hike will be to the beautiful trails of McDaniel Farm Park in Gwinnett County. This will be an easy 3-mile hike over the beautiful grounds of the historic McDaniel Farm. Many of the original buildings have been restored to their original condition. This is a real gem of a county park. Parking is free! We know that this event is not for everyone as some people are not ready to join groups. As we slowly begin to meet in-person again – there’s a couple things we want you to know. • We will do our best to monitor and remind everyone about social distancing; however, please take it upon yourself to decide if you are ready to participate in a group event. • In an effort to practice social distancing responsibly, we will divide into groups of ten or less. Thankfully, this has a wide path which makes it easier to practice social distancing while conversing. • We love you, but if you are not feeling well, please make sure to stay home… • We will not hand out name tags so please bring your own. • PLEASE NOTE: We would love to hug ALL of you… However, we are trying to create a safe environment so we ask everyone to PLEASE refrain from hugging or shaking hands. This will be an easy hike with a difficulty level of D -2 with a distance of 3.0 miles No children or animals please. Hiking Rating Scale: D1 Easy (beginner hikers) mostly flat D2 Easy to moderate (regular hikers) some hills D3 Moderate (a cardio workout) mountainous D4 Moderate to strenuous (challenging workout) Steep grades/agility D5 Strenuous (serious physical challenge) Very steep and far ADDRESS: 3251 McDaniel Road; Duluth, GA 30096 MAKE SURE you are coming in the front entrance off Old Norcross Rd to McDaniel Rd on the West Side of the Park. DO NOT GO TO THE PARKING LOT OFF DULUTH HIGHWAY WHICH IS EAST SIDE! WHAT TO BRING: Small Day Pack to carry your gear- rain jacket, camera, water, snacks, etc. Optional Things to Bring: Hiking Poles, LUNCH: Around noon at El Torero Mexican. 3656 Satellite Blvd NW, Duluth, GA 30096 ALPHARETTA CARPOOL: Meet in the outer parking lot of the Best Buy at the intersection of North Point Parkway and Haynes Bridge at 8:35 to depart at 8:45 am. Look for people in cars. No formal contact. KEEP IN MIND: There are always dangerous and unforeseen elements when out in nature: Cliffs, water hazards, weather, animals, insects, reptiles, falling limbs or rocks, Poison Ivy, Oak, Sumac, etc. Trails may be un-maintained, slippery, rocky, icy and have steep embankments. Shoes and clothing may get muddy or wet. The woods are your bathroom.
