September's Light Hike will be to the Island Ford - South trail system of the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area. We'll hike along the River, see beautiful rock formations and the Park HQS for the National Recreation Area in Atlanta. A few hills make this a fun hike with good friends and beautiful scenery along the river. There is a parking fee so car pooling recommended. This will be an easy hike with a difficulty level of D2 with a distance of 3.2 miles D1 Easy (beginner hikers) mostly flat D2 Easy to moderate (regular hikers) some hills D3 Moderate (a cardio workout) mountainous D4 Moderate to strenuous (challenging workout) Steep grades/agility D5 Strenuous (serious physical challenge) Very steep and far The GPS address is 8796 Roberts Drive; Sandy Springs, GA 30350 This is the closest GPS address to the Island Ford Parkway entrance off Roberts Drive. Do not try to enter the park via Northridge Road. When turning onto Island Ford Parkway off Roberts Drive, park in the first parking lot on the left just inside the park entrance. WHAT TO BRING: Rain jacket, camera, water, etc. Optional Things to Bring: Hiking Poles No children or animals please. LUNCH will be at the Moe's at the intersection of Northridge and Roswell Road: 8290 Roswell Road: Atlanta, GA 30350 CARPOOLING - Meet in the outer parking lot of the Best Buy at the intersection of North Point Parkway and Haynes Bridge at 9 am, leave 905am. The are setup as a convenience, therefore, we do not know who or if anyone will be there. KEEP IN MIND: There are always dangerous and unforeseen elements when out in nature: Cliffs, water hazards, weather, animals, insects, reptiles, falling limbs or rocks, Poison Ivy, Oak, Sumac, etc. Trails may be un-maintained, slippery, rocky, icy and have steep embankments. Shoes and clothing may get muddy or wet. The woods are your bathroom.
